A Clinical Study of Lindenmuth Billroth I Method as a Tool of Extended Application of Gastroduodenostomy on the Stomach Cancer

Abstract
The aim of this study was to establish wheather the Lindenmuth Billroth I method was a secure and effective procedure for extended application of gastroduodenostomy in the stomach cancer, without increased morbidity and mortality rates compared
with the
Conventional Billroth I method and Billroth II method.
During the period August 1991 to December 1993, a Lindenmuth Billroth I method (n=78) or Conventional Billroth I method (n=58) or Billroth II method (n=14) was performed in 150 patients (90 men and 60 women; mean age, 56.7 years; age range, 24 to
79
years).
No significant differece was found during evaluation with respect to the operation times, size of cancer mass, average resected length of stomach, and postoperative complication. Hospital stay was significantly (P=0.0304) shorter after Lindenmuth
Billroth I method compared with Conventional Billroth I method and Billroth II method. The change of length of newly formed lesser curvature side on the remnant stomach was calculated by randomized method on 22 patients. Among the 22 patients,
lengthening effect to the newly formed lesser curvature side on the remnant stomach (range, 0.5 to 2 cm) revealed in 19 patients and tension-releasing effect on the newly formed lesser curvature found in all patients.
In conclusion, Lindenmuth Biliroth I method was a secure and effective proced are for extended application of gastroduodenostomy in the stomach cancer, with the similar to operation times and average resected length length of stomach and
postoperative
complication as after Conventional Billroth I method and Billroth II method.
